Systemic issues pertain to issues identified due to system structures or processes that may be remedied through a structural, organization or policy change.  Reports on systemic issues are brought forward to relevant Minister(s) or outlined in annual reports.

We have made the following recommendations:

  • Recommendation for the Government of Alberta to develop a cross-ministry plan to address ageism and its impacts
  • Recommendation the Ministry of Seniors and Housing adopt communication guidelines for communicating with/to seniors that are mindful of unconscious ageism
  • Recommendations to address the unique challenges to self sufficiency faced by immigrant seniors in sponsorship breakdown
  • Recommendation to strike a task force to review the alignment between the overarching purpose of the Protection for Persons in Care Act and its implementation.

Issues reports and responses will be available when the relevant Minister(s) have reviewed and provided a response.
