  • Dec 19, 2017 - A Seniors Advocate representative helped prepare and deliver hot meals as part of the Edmonton Meals and Wheels Christmas with Friends and took the opportunity to speak with seniors receiving meals.
  • Nov 22, 2017 - The Seniors Advocate attended the Seniors and Housing Minister’s Seniors Advisory Forum in Calgary to listen the views of stakeholders.
  • Nov 17, 2017 - The Seniors Advocate spoke to seniors at the Golden Hills Lodge in Three Hills about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate and answered questions from the group following the presentation.

  • Oct 25, 2017 - The Seniors Advocate spoke to seniors in Edmonton at Touchmark at Wedgewood and gave a presentation on ageism and active living and answered questions from the group.

  • Oct 20, 2017 - A Seniors Advocate Representative spoke to members of the Southwest Edmonton Seniors Association (SWESA) about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate and discussed issues with the group.  

  • Oct 19, 2017 - A Seniors Advocate representative spoke to Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) Leduc the Seniors Advocate Representative spoke about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.

  • Oct 17, 2017 - The Seniors Advocate spoke to members of the community in Nanton on the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate and received feedback from the group on pressing seniors’ issues.

  • Oct 16, 2017 -The Seniors Advocate presented about the quality of life of older Albertans and was part of a panel discussion hosted by the Alberta Association on Gerontology in Calgary .

  • Oct 4, 2017 - The Seniors Advocate participated in the 2017 Health Minister’s Continuing Care Forum in Edmonton and presented on "what we have heard" about Alberta’s continuing care system. 

  • Oct 2, 2017 - The Seniors Advocate spoke to members of the Elder Law subcommittee in Edmonton about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate and received feedback from the group about issues they are encountering.

  • Sept 28, 2017 - The Seniors Advocate met with represenatives from the Edmonton Pride Seniors group to hear about initiatives and challenges faced by LGBTQ2S seniors.
  • Sept 20, 2017 - The Seniors Advocate spoke to seniors at the Southeast Edmonton Seniors Association (SEESA) on the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate and received feedback from the group about seniors issues.
  • Sept 19, 2017 - The Seniors Advocate spoke to members of Petrolia Seniors in Edmonton about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate and ageism and received feedback from the group on pressing seniors issues.
  • Sept 11-13, 2017 - The Seniors Advocate and a Seniors Advocate Representative presented at the Grey Matters Conference in Hinton. The Advocate led a workshop on Communicating with Seniors, and co-presented with the representative at a breakout session about the roles and responsibilities of the Office.  July 13, 2017 – A Seniors Advocate Representative spoke at the Senior Centre without Walls (via conference call) about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate

  • June 19, 2017 – The Seniors Advocate attended the 50th Anniversary celebration for the Alberta Council on Aging and spoke at the event on the importance of community agencies supporting seniors and increasing awareness around issues facing seniors and families.
  • June 12, 2017 – The Seniors Advocate spoke to the Alberta College of Social Workers in Camrose about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate and delivered a workshop on effective communication with older adults.
  • June 9, 2017 – As a Seniors Week event, the Seniors Advocate spoke to seniors in St Paul about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate and received feedback from the group on pressing seniors issues.
  • June 8, 2017 – As a Seniors Week event, the Seniors Advocate presented to a group of seniors at the Westend Seniors Activity Centre and participated in the Older Bolder Center resource fair with a senior advocate representative.  The Seniors Advocate presented on the roles and responsibilities of the Office and received feedback from the group on pressing seniors issues.

  • May 18, 2017- The Seniors Advocate spoke at an Alberta Continuing Care Association (ACCA) members meeting held in Calgary); and received information from the group about pressing seniors care issues from the perspective of care providers.
  • May 18, 2017- The Seniors Advocate met with the Calgary Chinese Elderly Citizen’s Association to hear from seniors and service providers about the challenges faced by seniors around affordable housing, interpretation services when receiving health care, and when sponsorship breaks down.
  • May 18, 2017-The Seniors Advocte met with representatives of Bowside Manor;s Tenant Advocacy group to hear about pressing issues and concerns.  
  • May 17, 2017-The Seniors Advocate spoke to the Edmonton Chapter of the Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP) about the role and responsibilites of the Office of the Seniors Advocate; and received information from CARP members about pressing seniors issues. 
  • May 11, 2017- The Seniors Advocate met with representatives from Covenant Health (Seniors Care & Environmental Supports) to hear about projects supported by the Network of Excellence in Seniors Health and Wellness.
  • May 10, 2017- A Seniors Advocate Representative attended the St. Albert Seniors Association Seniors Expo to represent the Office and to answer questions about the OSA.
  • May 5, 2017- The Seniors Advocate met with the Complaints Director, Alberta College of Pharmacists and heard about seniors’ pharmaceutical issues.
    April 26, 2017- The Seniors Advocate spoke at the Seniors United Now (SUN) Annual General Meeting about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • April 25, 2017- The Seniors Advocate spoke to the Seniors’ Action and Liaison Team (SALT) about the role and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate; and received information from the group about pressing seniors issues.
  • April 21, 2017- A Seniors Advocate Representative spoke to the Catholic Women’s League, Diocese of Edmonton, about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • April 4, 2017- The Seniors Advocate co-presented a session at the 2017 Connections Conference of the Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations (CCVO). The session topic was about changing demographics and the presentation highlighted broad factors that need to be considered in preparing for an aging population.
  • March 30, 2017- The Seniors Advocate delivered a workshop on communicating with seniors for Ministry of Seniors and Housing and other Government of Alberta employees.
  • March 24, 2017- The Seniors Advocate spoke to the Alberta Seniors Communities and Housing Association (ASCHA) Convention and Tradeshow on the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • March 23, 2017- The Seniors Advocate delivered a workshop on communicating with seniors for Ministry of Seniors and Housing and other Government of Alberta employees.

  • February 16, 2017- The Seniors Advocate met with representatives from the Brenda Stafford Foundation (Calgary) to hear about initiatives in care for older adults.

  • February 15, 2017- As part of a first province-wide tour of Alberta to meet with seniors groups and stakeholders, the Seniors Advocate gave a presentation about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate; and received feedback about pressing issues from a group of seniors at the Strathcona Centre (Medicine Hat)
  • February 15, 2017- The Seniors Advocate met with a group of officials from the City of Medicine Hat and gave a presentation on the Office of the Seniors Advocate.

  • February 14, 2017- As part of a first province-wide tour of Alberta to meet with seniors groups and stakeholders, the Seniors Advocate gave a presentation about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate; and received feedback about pressing issues from a group of seniors at the Lethbridge Seniors Citizen Organization LSCO (Lethbridge).
  • February 10, 2017- A Seniors Advocate Representative attended the Seniors Health and Wellness Fair in Edmonton to represent and answer questions about the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • February 9, 2017- The Seniors Advocate met with the leadership of the Human Services Ministry and provided an overview of the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • February 7, 2017- The Seniors Advocate met with a group of seniors from the community and spoke about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate; and received feedback from the group about pressing seniors issues.

  • January 25, 2017- The Seniors Advocate spoke to the Short Term Assessment and Rehabilitative Treatment (START) group of seniors about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate; and received feedback about pressing seniors issues.

  • January 21, 2017 - The Seniors Advocate spoke to particpants of the Mill Woods Seniors Activity Centre Resouce Fair in Edmonton abouth the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.

  • January 20, 2017-The Seniors Advocate spoke to the Seniors Housing Society of Alberta in Sherwood Park about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • January 19, 2017- The Seniors Advocate spoke to a Catholic Women’s League in St Albert about the role of the Office of the Seniors Advocate. 
  • January 19, 2017 - The Seniors Advocate met with the Calgary Chamber of Voluntary Organizations to hear about issues of importance to voluntary organizations.
  • December 15, 2016- The Seniors Advocate spoke to the Seniors and Housing Ministry on the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • December 14 – Meals on Wheels. The Seniors Advocate helped prepare and deliver hot meals and took the opportunity to speak with seniors receiving hot meals.
  • December 12, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate met with representatives of the Alberta Association of Seniors Helping Seniors to hear about the groups’ concerns with city bylaws.
  • December 2, 2016 – The Senior Advocate met with a representative of a local group establishing an Aging 2.0 chapter in Alberta. The Seniors Advocate learned about this initiative and role of this group in accelerating innovation to improve the lives of older people.
  • December 1, 2016 – TEDMEDLive 2016, End Game Invited Panelist, University of Alberta. The Seniors Advocate participated in a panel discussion on the topics considered in the session: caregiver crisis, dementia, the neuroarchitecture of memory and the science of aging.
  • November 29, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate met with representatives of the Centre for Public Legal Education Alberta (PLEA). The Seniors Advocate learned about the work of the CPLEA, resources for seniors and gave an overview of the role of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • November 28 – 30 – A Seniors Advocate Representative attended “Train the Trainer: Metis Elder Abuse Training”. The Senior Advocate Representative trained people from various metis settlements throughout the province on how to recognize, respond, refer and reconnect in regards to elder abuse.
  • November 28, 2016- The Seniors Advocate attended a meeting on supportive living regulations and accommodation standards organized by the Continuing Care Branch, Alberta Health. The role of the Senior Advocate was to voice concerns of seniors and service providers about supportive living regulations.
  • November 26, 2016- The Seniors Advocate met with an informal seniors group to discuss the role of the Office of the Seniors Advocate and to listen to concerns and experiences of the group about government programs and services.
  • November 22, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate met with representatives of the Seniors Health Strategic Clinical Network (SH SCN), Alberta Health Services. The Advocate gave an overview of the Office of the Seniors Advocate and learned about the activities and priorities of the SH SCN.
  • November 22, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate met with representatives from the organization Seniors United Now (SUN). The Seniors Advocate provided an overview of the role of the Seniors Advocate and learned about the work and priorities of SUN.
  • November 21, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate spoke to seniors at the Jewish Senior Centre on the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • November 16, 2016 – The Senior Advocate was invited to speak at a workshop on creating environments for health and active aging. The Seniors Advocate spoke on “Ageism as a Barrier to Healthy and Engaged Aging”.
  • November 18, 2016- The Seniors Advocate spoke to the Seniors Strategic Planning Branch of the Seniors and Housing Ministry on the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • November 16, 2016 – The Senior Advocate spoke to an audience of seniors attending an event organized by the Indo Canadian Women's Association. The Senior Advocate spoke on the role and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate as an agent of change.
  • November 14, 2016 - The Seniors Advocate met with representatives of the Alberta Continuing Care Association to hear about the work of this association, concerns and priorities, and provided an overview of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • November 14, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate met with an informal group of seniors to hear their concerns and experiences as seniors in the province of Alberta.
  • November 10, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate spoke to an informal seniors group called the Garvey Seniors about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate. The Office of the Seniors Advocate also arranged for a representative of the Alberta Government to present on financial supports for seniors.
  • November 9, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate met with representatives of the Alberta Council on Aging to hear about the work, concerns, and priorities of this group; and to provide an overview of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • November 8, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate participated as an invited panelist at a Town Hall organized by National Association of Federal Retirees & Canadian Medical Association on the Health Accord. The Seniors Advocate gave an overview of multiple determinants of health in aging.
  • November 7, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate met with representatives of the Edmonton Seniors Coordinating Council to hear about the work of this organization and to provide an overview of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • November 7, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate met with the Executive of St Michaels Health Group, Edmonton, to learn about this organization and to listen to systemic issues this group identified.
  • November 4, 2016 - The Seniors Advocate attended the Knowledge to Action Summit event at the University of Alberta to learn about a program of research in continuing care.
  • November 3, 2016 – The Alberta Seniors Advocate met with representatives of the Alberta Seniors Community and Housing Association to hear about the work of the association and their issues.
  • November 3, 2016 - The Seniors Advocate hosted a visit by the British Columbia Seniors Advocate. The Advocates discussed the roles of the two offices, seniors issues in BC and Alberta, and future collaborative efforts.
  • November 2, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate met with representative of the Alberta Human Rights Commission to hear about their work with seniors and their public education initiatives around human rights.
  • October 28, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate met with the Senior Task Force of Public Interest Alberta to hear concerns and priorities of the group. The Advocate also provided an overview of the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • October 27, 2016- The Seniors Advocate attended an informal gathering of Government of Alberta Advocates and provided an overview of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • October 26, 2016- A Seniors Advocate Representative spoke to a community group of seniors on “Elder Abuse” and provide an overview of the roles and responsiblites of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • October 26, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate met with a representative from Carya Calgary to hear about systemic issues and to learn about Carya’s programs for seniors.
  • October 25, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate met with representatives of the Edmonton Pride Seniors Group to hear about their concerns and initiatives.
  • October 21, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate attended the Tri-Organization Knowledge Sharing session on Aging Services and Polices organized by Alberta Health.
  • October 18, 2016- The Seniors Advocate met with representatives from the Seniors Task Force of Public Interest Alberta to hear about their priorities, initiatives, and concerns; and to introduce the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • October 17, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate met with representatives from the Greater Edmonton Alliance Seniors’ team to hear about their initiatives and concerns and to introduce the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • October 17 - The Seniors Advocate met with representatives from the Edmonton Meals on Wheels to hear about their operation, needs of seniors in the community, and delivered and talked with seniors receiving hot meals that day.
  • October 14, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate attended and gave a presentation on the role of Office of the Seniors Advocate to the Continuing Care Branch, Alberta Health.
  • October 3, 2016 – The Seniors Advocate met with representatives from Medicine Hat College to introduce the Office of the Seniors Advocate and learn about aging related initiatives at Medicine Hat College
  • September 20-21, 2016 – Grey Matters Conference the Seniors Advocate attended this conference in Grand Prairie. The Conference is a two-day event that offers provincial service providers opportunities to network, gain knowledge and increase awareness of issues, supports and services for seniors.
  • September 16, 2016 – Met with the MLA for Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo, Shadow Seniors Minister.
