  • Oct 25, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate participated in the Alberta Continuing Care Association’s annual conference and presented a workshop on communicating with, to and about older adults.
  • Oct 25, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate participated in the Alberta Continuing Care Association’s annual conference on a panel on combating ageism and spoke on leadership's role in driving culture change as it relates to communicating with older adults. 
  • Oct 24, 2019 - A Seniors Advocate Representative gave a presentation on the Roles and Responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate at the 55+ Seniors Health and Wellness Fair in Peace River.
  • Oct 17, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate gave a presentation on the roles and responsibilities and advocacy work of the Office of the Seniors Advocate at the annual Mulhurst Bay Ladies Day.
  • Oct 11, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate spoke with members of Public Interest Alberta about the advocacy work of the Office of the Seniors Advocate and received input on the future directions for the office.  
  • Oct 7, 2019 - As part of a tour to revisit Alberta Communities to meet with seniors, groups and stakeholders, the Seniors Advocate met with gave a presentation to members of the Catholic Women's League in St. Albert about the advocacy work of the Office of the Seniors Advocate and received input on the future directions for the office.  
  • Oct 4, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate provided opening remarks at the Early Onset Dementia Alberta Foundation Conference and spoke about the unique challenges of persons with early onset dementia.

  • Sept 28, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate engaged with seniors at an event hosted by the Elder Advocates of Alberta Society in Edmonton about the role of the Office of the Seniors Advocate and listened to individual senior’s experiences.
  • Sept 27, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate spoke to members of Edmonton’s Bent Arrow’s Crows Nest Seniors Program about the roles and responsibilities of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.

  • Sept 18, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate attended a meeting with multiple stakeholders hosted by Advance Care Planning Alberta and participated in discussions about creating a plan for public engagement and action for Albertans around advance care planning.
  • July 26, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate met with an informal group of community seniors and gave an update on the progress of the Office of the Seniors Advocate on meeting its mandate and received feedback on the progress, structure and future directions of the Office of the Seniors Advocate.
  • July 25, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate and Seniors Advocate Representatives met with the Community Liaison Officer for the Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments for Canada to learn about how the organization may assist Albertans contacting the Office of the Seniors Advocate having disputes with banks and investment firms.  
  • July 4, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate met with the CEO of the Early Onset Dementia Alberta Foundation to learn about the initiatives of the foundation, their annual awareness conference and to discuss opportunities for the Advocate to collaborate with the foundation.
  • June 25, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate attended an Adult and Seniors Sector meeting to brainstorm with service providers/organizations on data needs and opportunities for collaboration in the sector. The Advocate presented on the roles of the Office of the Seniors Advocate and provided an overview of the advocacy and recommendation work of the office.
  • June 21, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate gave opening remarks at the inaugural conference of the Society of Alberta Occupational Therapists entitled “Bringing Seniors into Focus”. The Advocate spoke about the role of occupational therapists and allied professions in contributing to the health and wellbeing of senior Albertans and the importance of being mindful of ageism and its manifestations in care practice.
  • June 20, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate attended the annual general meeting of TREC (Translating Research in Elder Care) to hear about new research coming out of the work of the research group.
  • June 19, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate gave a presentation about the impacts of age stereotyping and ageism in communication with, to and about older adults at a meeting of the Alberta Seniors Care Coalition. The Advocate provided guidelines to avoid unintended ageism in written and spoken messages.
  • May 22, 2019 – The Seniors Advocate met with a community service provider to receive input on programs and experiences with resolution support mechanisms for persons in care and/or receiving health care.
  • May 10, 2019 – The Seniors Advocate met with the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta to hear about her interests in seniors issues and to highlight the work of the Office of the Seniors Advocate and discuss the concerns of senior Albertans.
  • April 26, 2019 – The Seniors Advocate met with representatives and the president of the Fédération des aînés franco-albertains (F.A.F.A.) to hear about need of and programs for Francophone seniors in Alberta.
  • April 24, 2019 -  The Seniors Advocate visited a supportive retirement community in Edmonton to learn about the Butterfly Model/approach to care for persons with dementia.
  • April 23, 2019 - The Seniors Advocate met with a community stakeholder to hear about a  United States model aimed at increasing access to assistive devices for persons with functional challenges through loan, reuse/recycle and financing programs.
  • April 4, 2019 – The Seniors Advocate attended an event organized by the Elder Advocates of Alberta to listen and receive feedback from seniors as they made presentations on their experiences with government programs and services.
