Caring for the caregiver

Caregivers Alberta is an organization of caregivers for caregivers. This organization provides programs and resources to help you manage the stresses of caregiving, including providing information about respite options in your community. Covenant Health has developed an inventory of current resources available to caregivers: Resources and Supports for Caregivers in Alberta (2016).

Where can I get advice about caring for someone with dementia? Health Link nurses can provide dementia advice. Call Health Link (dial 8-1-1) (1-866-408-5465 for out of province or internet phone users) to speak to a registered nurse 24/7.

The Early Onset Dementia Alberta Foundation (EODAF) has a Dementia Smart Life Line for caregivers. The Alzheimer Society (Alberta and North West Territories) provides information and support for persons with Alzheimer’s and other dementias; families and caregivers.

Looking for an online support community? Asant Café  is an online gathering place for persons with dementia and caregivers. The development of ASANT Cafe was funded in part by an Innovation Grant from the Government of Alberta.
