Government financial supports: Health benefits

The Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) covers all eligible Albertans for insured hospital and physician services in Alberta.

The Government of Alberta provides benefits to help with your health and well-being. These include Dental and Optical Assistance for Seniors ; the Alberta Aids to Daily LivingSpecial Needs Assistance for Seniors program; and supplementary health care including coverage for prescription medications through premium-free Alberta Blue Cross Coverage for Seniors.

Supports if you cannot live independently and need continuing care

You may need Alberta’s continuing care system if personal daily activities (e.g., bathing, dressing, toileting, eating) become difficult to do on your own. There are three types of living supports under Alberta’s continuing care system: home living, supportive living and facility living.
