Interpretation of the Logo

The logo of the Seniors Advocate represents the connectedness of Albertans across the life time. Development across the lifetime is shown by seasonal colours; spring (youth = green), summer (adulthood = wheat yellow) and fall (older adulthood = red). The logo challenges a stereotypical view of the life course. The stereotypical view expects enhancement (/) from youth to adulthood, followed by steady decline (\) in older adulthood. Expecting steady decline in older adulthood is viewing aging as all downhill.

Instead, aging is best characterized by balancing gains and losses. The implied line (-) between youth and older age in the logo shows this. This is a realistic, not stereotypical, view of what happens in aging.
